A fire on a Union Pacific freight train destroyed 12 refrigerators early Thursday, Dec. 22, as the train passed through San Timoteo Canyon near Redlands.
The fire was reported in the area of San Timoteo Canyon Road and Live Oak Canyon Road at about 4:22 a.m., Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department said. Cal Fire and Redlands firefighters arrived to find a double-deck rail car fully engulfed by flames.
San Timoteo Canyon Road was closed between Redlands Boulevard and Alessandro Road for about two hours, Cal Fire said.
The tracks were reopened at about 6 a.m., said Robynn Tysver, a Union Pacific spokesperson.
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire, which was contained to one car, was under investigation, Tysver said.
