Angel City FC adds a pair of international signings

Angel City FC remained busy this week, bringing in Jamaica national team captain Allyson Swaby and Japan national team forward Jun Endo.

Swaby, who was born in Connecticut and attended Boston College, currently plays for AS Roma in Italy. She will join ACFC after January after signing a two-year contract with an option.

Swaby, 25, actually played against ACFC sporting director Eni Aluko in 2018, while Aluko was with Juventus.

“I have admired her rise as an international defender ever since,” Aluko said. “Her athleticism, versatility, and relentless desire to improve her game are qualities that set her apart. Her leadership experience with her native Jamaica will be a welcome asset to Angel City both on and off the field.”

Swaby began her professional career in Iceland before moving to Italy. She made her debut with Jamaica in 2018.

“I’d like to thank everyone at Angel City for granting me this opportunity,” Swaby said in a statement. “The collective vision of the group lets me know that great things are coming our way.”

Endo, 21, will join ACFC on a two-year contract from Japan’s professional league with Nippon TV Tokyo Verdy Beleza. ACFC will pay a transfer fee to the Japanese club.

“Jun is a highly technical, unique, and versatile forward who we have admired for some time,” Aluko said. “She can play multiple positions, which is important and she plays with maturity beyond her years.”

Endo played in U-17 and U-20 World Cups for Japan and made her professional debut in 2018.
