August bank holiday: Tesco, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s and M&S opening times

The August Bank Holiday is here, giving folks across the country a welcome long weekend as summer draws to a close.

If you live in England, Wales or Northern Ireland today, August 30, is also the last bank holiday before Christmas – even more reason to make the most of the extra time off, given the festive season is still several months away.

Although the weather forecast may be mixed, you may still want to use the day to catch up with friends or even fire up the BBQ, but can you still pop to the shops and stock up on burger buns and bottles of beer?

Here’s when Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Argos will be open over the bank holiday weekend.

Tesco bank holiday opening hours 2021

Whether you’re spending the weekend chilling on the sofa, or entertaining friends, you might need to make a pitstop to your local supermarket.

Tesco will be open as usual on August Bank Holiday.

However, their press office has confirmed to that opening hours do vary from store to store so customers are advised to visit the Tesco Store locator online to check their local store.

Sainsburys bank holiday opening hours

Sainsbury’s have confirmed that the majority of their larger stores will be open from 8am-8pm, while Sainsbury’s Local stores will open at 7am and close at 11pm.

As with other major chains, opening times may vary so check your nearest stores online for their exact hours.

Morrisons opening times

Morrisons have slightly altered opening hours today.

Stores in England and Wales will be open from 7am-8am, although there are some regional exceptions, with stores in Newquay open from 6am-10pm and from 7am-10pm in Little Canvey

Branches in Scotland – where today is not a bank holiday – will have their normal opening hours.

Waitrose opening times

Opening hours will change at some Waitrose branches today, with some opening their doors later than usual and closing earlier.

M&S opening times

Most M&S branches won’t see changes to their opening times, but be sure to check your local store’s hours here.

Most branches of Marks and Spencer will be open on bank holiday Monday, but they have confirmed to that some may have reduced opening hours.

You can find out the exact hours of your nearest branch on the store locator on the M&S website, or via the M&S app.

So, should you need to stock up on supplies for your gloriously sunny bank holiday weekend, there should be a supermarket near you to meet your needs!
