unglasses are a summertime staple, because let’s face it, squinting will never be en vogue – no matter how golden the hour.
An easy way to update your look or add personality to an outfit, finding the perfect pair of sunnies can be as tough as searching for the ultimate jeans or superlative white tee.
We’ve gone through a round of sunnies trends, from the ludicrously teeny to the face-obscuring frames that you can successfully hide a hangover behind.
Whether you’re a collector of the weird and wonderful, or an appreciator of a classic, a great pair of sunglasses can complete your BST outfit. The choice is often overwhelmingly huge, but if you’re looking for a set that can go the distance, the first thing to consider is which shape suits your features best.
Luckily Perry Moore, MD at sunglasses brand Silhouette UK is on hand with sunglass shopping tips for your face shape. The key, as you’ll read below, is all about balance:
- Oval Faces: An oval face shape is the most versatile when choosing eyewear, suiting daring shapes, oversized frames and bold colours. To emphasise your strongest features, opt for a model that’s as wide as the broadest part of your face to add angles and balance the gentle curves of the oval face shape.
- Heart-Shaped Faces: If you have a heart-shaped face, choose frames that are as wide or slightly wider than the forehead to balance out a narrower chin. Rounded or oval-shaped frames and those with decorative details along the top line are an excellent choice. If you’re not sure about rounded panto-shaped lenses, try a square frame for a striking look.
- Round Faces: Angular, squared frames are the best choice if you have a round face, giving it a longer, narrower appearance as their sharp angles balance out the face’s roundness. For the most flattering look, try a pair that are wider than they are tall.
- Triangular Faces: A triangular face is narrower at the top and has a broader chin. To add width to the narrower top half of your face, choose frames with a strong brow-line, such as a full-rim cat-eye shape.
- Square Faces: Just as square frames suit round faces, round or oval frames balance out and add softness to a square face. Opt for frames that are narrower than they are wide to soften strong, angular features. Neutral colours will also help to elongate the face.
Whether you’re looking for a party pair to see you through summer’s celebrations or an everyday set of frames that go with everything in your wardrobe, we’ve rounded up the nicest styles for the summer in the widest variety of shapes below.
