Brooke Shields has insisted her infamous film Blue Lagoon wouldn’t be filmed these days.

The star appeared in the 1980 film aged 14, with the flick focusing on Brooke and Christopher Atkins’ characters, who were cousins, Emmeline and Richard Lestrange, marooned on an island as children.

It followed them into adulthood as they matured and went through puberty, before eventually falling in love and having a child together.

The film featured nudity and speaking about the film under the lens of today, Brooke, 57, insists it wouldn’t be made.

She said during a conversation with Christopher, 61, on her Now What? podcast: ‘Never again will a movie be made like that. It wouldn’t be allowed.’

Christopher went on: ‘Animals were hurt in the movie. We were spearing fish and all kinds of crazy things. Children are naked running down a beach. Couldn’t do that now.’

Brooke went on to recall how her hair was taped to her chest to ‘cover her boobs’, saying: ‘I don’t know what I was trying to cover. Remember the bumpy pads? They would stick these little flesh-coloured things to my nipple because nipple is where they drew the line, evidently, with this movie.’

Christopher, who was 18 when they filmed the movie, said: ‘There were scenes where I was butt naked with you, if you remember, sliding down that slide and things like that. And that was a little awkward, but it was kind of funny for me because at this point in time I would just do it.’

Despite criticism at the time of its release, Blue Lagoon grossed over $58million (£47m) on a $4.5m (£3.7m) budget and became the ninth-highest-grossing film of the year in North America.

Brooke previously opened up about the role in her 2014 memoir, There Was A Little Girl: The Real Story of My Mother and Me.

She wrote: ‘It was a really interesting disconnect. You sort of desensitise yourself to anything sexual. In Blue Lagoon, I’m using a glue gun, taping my hair, anything I can so my body doesn’t show I have boobs. And I didn’t realise I was doing it, because I was a kid. I was in a cocoon with my mum.’
