Gov. Gavin Newsom easily defeated Republican state Sen. Brian Dahle in the race for re-election, according to registrar data. It was another large victory for the Democrat, who defeated a recall attempt last year by nearly 24 percentage points.
In San Diego County, the governor won re-election by nearly 12 percentage points. Voters in the county had rejected the recall by more than 16 points.
Data shows voters in precincts along the county’s coastal region favored Newsom. The only exceptions are seen among voters in Coronado and those north of Oceanside, who favored Dahle.
Most precincts that fall east of Escondido, Poway, El Cajon and Chula Vista favored Dahle as well.
