Galaxy to open 2022 season at home against champion New York City FC

The Galaxy will open the 2022 MLS season on Feb. 27 at home against champion New York City FC.

The following week, the Galaxy will be the first home opponent for new expansion team Charlotte FC on March 5.

The Galaxy will play crosstown rival Los Angeles Football Club just twice this season: April 9 at home and July 8 at Banc of California Stadium.

MLS released the complete 34-game schedule for all teams Wednesday. The Galaxy will play 16 of its 34 games on national television.

Last season, the Galaxy played just games against teams from the Eastern Conference. This season, that number increases to eight, with home games against NYCFC in the opener, Orlando City SC (March 19), CF Montreal (July 4) and Atlanta United FC (July 24) and road games against Charlotte FC (Mar. 5), Chicago Fire FC (April 16), New England (Aug. 28) and Toronto FC (Aug. 31).

The busiest months for the Galaxy will come in April and May, with five games apiece, and July and August, with six games apiece.

The Galaxy will conclude the regular season Oct. 9 at Houston.
