President Cup: PGAN To Field 25 Professionals

 The Professional Golf­ers’ Association of Nigeria (PGAN) will feature 25 fields for the forthcoming inaugural Nigeria Golf Federation (NGF) President Cup billed for Miccom Golf Club in Ada Osun State from November 26 to 29, 2020.

The event which is expect­ed to showcase a stiff competi­tion among golfers across the country is a long time dream of the NGF President, Chief Olagunsoye Oyinlola.

Samson Lawal, the out-go­ing PGAN Director told DAI­LY INDEPENDENT the first 20 fields are listed in order of merit, while the remaining five are based on the NGF’s President’s discretion.

“The invitation of the pro­fessionals’ is strictly based on the order of merit, but the President of the NGF who is also the host is allowed some concession, to have some play­ers to complete the list,” the Director explained.

Friday November 26 is the professionals’ event; they will be playing for a N2 million prize; while the am­ateur events will hold from 27-29 as presentation of priz­es comes up at the later part of the day.

Jide Bolaji, Secretary of the PGAN revealed also that subsequent edition of the President Cup would be ex­panded for more professional participations, just as there is excitement in the air among golfers at the return of the President Cup.

“The tournament will be opened to all professionals by next year’s edition; everyone is however very happy that the President Cup finally is back; it’s good for the devel­opment of golf in Nigeria,” Bolaji concluded.
