A double bogey on the seventh hole hurt Yuka Saso’s title bid on Sunday as she settled for joint third place in the 39th Daio Paper Ellair Ladies Open at the Elleair Golf Club in Matsuyama.
Two shots behind Ayaka Furue at the start of the final round, the 19-year-old Filipino-Japanese opened with a bogey and recovered it with a birdie on 6.
Following a double on 7, Saso dropped another shot on 12 before coasting the last six holes on 1-under for a closing 73.
She finished the 72-hole event on 275, six shots behind Furue who had four birdies against two bogeys for 69.
Tying Saso was Erika Kikuchi who birdied the last two holes to close with a 70.
Hinako Shibuno claimed fifth place on 276 following a sparkling 66 built on six birdies against a lone bogey.
Sharing sixth on 278 were Sakura Koiwai (69), Maiko Wakabayashi (70), Minami Katsu (71), Momoko Ueda (71), Kana Nagai (72) and Ayaka Watanabe (72).
Meanwhile, Juvic Pagunsan wound up in a tie for 58th spot on 287 after closing with a 71 in the 47th Dunlop Phoenix tournament at the Phoenix Seagia Resort in Miyazaki.
The 42-year-old Filipino, who teed off at the back, birdied the 18th to complete an even par round. He had six birdies against four bogeys and a double bogey.
Justin de los Santos, the United States-based Filipino, fired a 71 to finish in joint 13th on eight-under 276.
De los Santos had three birdies against a bogey and a double bogey.
