Opinion: Republicans only seem bent on vengeance after promises to address border, crime, inflation

GOP is focusing on stunts not solutions

Re “Republicans win back control of House with narrow majority“ (Nov. 17): For months, all I heard was open borders, crime, inflation, gas prices. So what do the self-serving righties say is their number one priority in a press conference today?? Investigating Hunter Biden!, who is not an elected official.

I am proud since my first election in 1976, I have never voted for anyone with an “R” after their name.

How admirable and reassuring to hear from the new majority in the House of Representatives that the Republican Party plans to address inflation, immigration, health care, climate change and other important issues facing our country.

Just kidding. It appears that having no actual agenda, it will focus on revenge investigations instead of governing and instead of accepting responsibility for the misdeeds of the previous administration. Such a wasted opportunity to accomplish something to benefit our country.

Re “Trump seeks White House again amid GOP losses, legal probes” (Nov. 15): Wonderful news that Donald Trump is running for president in 2024. His participation in the election is certain to further fracture the Republican Party and provide clear paths for Democrats and independents.

As I recall, this whole mess started when many Republicans welcomed the John Birchers on board in the 1960s. That’s when so many party intellectuals and good Americans left the party, and the exodus continues. We reap what we sow.
