After a long year, Christmas is finally here – a welcome chance to unwind and relax.
However, you might need to post something out to a friend or relative, or pick up a missed delivery which could mean a last-minute trip to the Post Office is on the cards.
Before you brave the cold weather, it’s a good idea to check the opening times, since they are different over the festive season.
Here is all you need to know.
What are the Post Office opening hours this Christmas?
Opening times can vary branch to branch, and so it is recommended that you find your local opening hours by using the Branch Finder tool.
There are no deliveries or collections on December 23 and 24 as Royal Mail workers are striking on these days, in a dispute over pay.
There also won’t be deliveries or collections on December 25, 26, 27 as these are bank holidays, so you will not receive any post between December 23-27.
Christmas Eve: Each branch will be open at different times, with opening hours typically being 9am to 1pm.
The official advice listed on the Post Office’s website states that ‘opening times can change at short notice. This may be in order to deep clean or due to staff shortages.’
Christmas Day: Some branches will be closed on Christmas Day.
Boxing Day: Some branches will be closed on Boxing Day.
December 27: Some branches will reopen but there will be no collections or deliveries.
December 28:Some branches will reopen but there will be no collections or deliveries.
The Post Office told Metro.co.uk: ‘We typically have around 4,000 of our 11,500 Post Offices open on weekends and we expect that the majority of these 4,000 branches, typically located in convenience stores, will be open over the whole Christmas period including Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
‘Branches should have posters displayed advising customers of their opening hours. We also encourage people to visit the branch finder for information about opening hours of Post Offices and the nearest located branches.’
Normal hours for most branches won’t resume until Wednesday, December 29, though some branches will reopen for limited services.
It is recommended that you use the Post Office branch finder tool ahead of time.
